Basement finishing

Framing, drywall, flooring, and egress: unfinished space turned into rooms you actually use.

A basement finish begins with the unglamorous checks: moisture, headroom, and how a person gets out in an emergency. Only after the slab proves dry and the egress plan works does framing start. Then the space builds up in layers — insulated walls, wiring, drywall, ceilings that still allow access to shutoffs, and flooring that can live near concrete.

It is the cheapest square footage most homes will ever add, because the roof and the foundation already exist. Plan around what the space is for: a guest room needs an egress window and a closet to count as a bedroom, while a rec room mostly needs outlets, light, and a ceiling that doesn't feel low.
